Gene Thacker Clean-Up Draws Large Volunteer Crowd

GHC served as the command center for the Gene Thacker Memorial Clean-Up on Saturday, April 27 in Cartersville.  The event, hosted by Keep Bartow Beautiful, Green Highlands, Phi Theta Kappa and the Spanish Activities Club, drew 110 volunteers.  They collected 3,000 pounds of trash and 2,700 pounds of recycling materials from roadways within a five-mile radius of the GHC campus, an effort amounting to $5,000 of service to the community.  Chick-fil-A, Green Highlands and PTK provided lunch, while the Spanish Activities Club offered child care and fun for children of participants.

Other local businesses contributed to the effort as well, including USG Interiors, Mockingbird Dental, the Ragsdale Inn,  Purks Building/Comedy Club and Kohl's.  GHC has participated in the event for the last several years.
