Foundation Campers Feel the Beat of a Different Drum

Dr. Arvin Scott, professor of music at the University of Georgia, visited the Foundation Camp on Tuesday, June 4 to share his knowledge, humor and talent with the campers.  He brought a variety of African drums, drumsticks and other small percussion instruments.  After he demonstrated the different sounds and patterns the drums could make, he showed the campers how to play.

Scott also runs a youth program called Drumming for Success, which teaches students from pre-k through college about his drums and drumming techniques.

As part of other activities, campers were introduced to a robotics course.  They will build and program a small bot, then watch it work.  Just what guys love -- mechanics, but a bit more sophisticated.
