Georgia Highlands College

I haven't always known that I wanted to teach English.  My first degree was in business, specifically Risk Management and Insurance, from the University of Georgia.  I had a lot of fun helping very large corporations to self-insure and to form captive insurance companies, but at some point, I knew that I needed a change.

When considering my options, I decided to pay attention to my roots--my grandfather was an English teacher, and my mother was an English teacher--so to test my interest and ability in English, I took two courses:  Shakespeare and creative writing.  I fell in love.   I went back to school and got my Masters degree in English Literature from Georgia State University and started teaching while I was a graduate student at GSU.  I have been teaching English composition and literature at Georgia Highlands since 2011.

One thing that you should know about me is that I started my college career at South Georgia College while I was a senior in high school.  I am a big believer in two-year colleges, and I think you have made a great choice to attend Georgia Highlands College.  I am committed to helping my students learn how to think critically, write effectively, and appreciate literature.  If you do your part, I am here to help you be successful.
