Online Physical Geology GEOL 1121k

There is no mandatory orientation for this course. You will complete orientation activities online once the semester begins. Be sure to log into the course as soon as you have access!

The course will be almost exclusively online, including labs. Required supplies include textbook, lab manual and lab supply kit, and of course reliable Internet access. You may purchase these materials individually, share the cost/use with a classmate, or use sets on reserve in the Rome and Cartersville libraries. You may use these reserve sets in the library only - not for check out.

Textbook: Earth: An Introduction to Physical Geology, E. Tarbuck and F. Lutgens, Pearson Prentice Hall, 9th Edition (ISBN #978-0131566842).

Lab Manual: Laboratory Manual in Physical Geology, R. Busch (ed.),NAGT/AGI, Prentice Hall, 8th edition (ISBN # 0136007716).

Required text and lab manual are available through the college bookstore; additional required materials must be ordered from Ward's Science catalog.

The Stone Mt. topographic map is on reserve in the Cartersville and Rome libraries.

  • Stone Mountain 1:24,000 scale, 7.5 minute Topographic quadrangle map. 1992 or newer.

You may obtain this 1:24,000 scale maps from the Georgia Geologic Survey: 404-656-3214.

As you can see, there are multiple items required for this lab course and your success depends on your timely acquisition of these items. The complete set of books and supplies is on reserve at the Rome and Catersville libraries. You may use these reserve sets in the library only - not for check-out.

The course will be managed through GeorgiaVIEW Vista. Face-to-face proctored midterm and final exams are mandatory and will be conducted in the Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, and Paulding campus location Testing Centers. There will be several date and time options for you to schedule these exams on, with details to follow once the semester begins. The course is not self-paced; There are fifteen Lesson Modules that will be open for two weeks and then close. Lesson Modules will overlap by one week, so two Lessons will be open during any time period. Once the Lesson closes, work for credit will not be available or accepted. The course requires self-discipline and organization from students who intend to earn a passing grade.
