Before you begin a new week of labs, make sure to print the lab procedures from the Georgia Highlands website.† Each lab protocol is only a couple pages long and contains no images.† Print these out and bring them to lab.† Be sure to read them over before you begin each lab. Protocols may be found at the following website:

Skills Test: ††††††††††††††††††††††† 100 points

Written Final Exam:†††††† 100 points

Participation: ††††††††††††††††† 100 points

Total: †††††††††††††††††††††††††††††††† 300 points †††††††††††††††††††††††† Grade Determined by studentís earned points / 300 = %

To maintain all of the allotted points for participation, you must attend lab each meeting.† Lab meets 2 days per week.† Missing lab will result in the loss of 5 points per absence.† Missing more than 4 meetings will result in the forfeiture of all participation points for the semester (barring exceptions).

Skills Tests: At the midway point of the semester, a skills test will be administered to assess the studentís abilities to perform certain necessary skills in the lab.† These include proper safety, aseptic technique, proper microscope use, staining and cultivation of organisms.† Grades are assigned by the instructor based on the performance of proper technique.

Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive and includes all of the material covered in the lab.† The format is mixed, with true/false, multiple choice, matching short answer, and a practical portion.† The exam focuses on media and methods in the lab and also cultural characteristics of the common organisms that we study and use during the course of the semester.
