Aujana Dawkins Signs on for Basketball at GHC

Heritage High School graduate Aujana Dawkins has signed with Georgia Highlands College to play in the women’s basketball program.  Dawkins was a stand-out for the Heritage Patriots during her three years at the Conyers high school.  As a member of the varsity team, she scored a total of 701 points, averaging 10.4 point per game.  Her rebounds total was 786, giving her an average of 11.2 boards per game.  She also made 172 assists, averaging 2.6, and a total of 150 blocks for an average of 2.25 per game.

Heritage coach Chris Pennamon called her a godsend when she came onto his team the summer before her sophomore year.  He said, “She was a terror on the boards and on the defensive end with steals and blocks.  Her skill level developed over her three years to the point where she could handle the ball and create her own shot on the perimeter as well as the block.  Aujana is definitely a rare gem that came through Heritage High School.  The day I met her and worked her out for the first time, I told her dad that I would help her get into college if he would let me and my coaching staff work with her raw talent.  I believe that she will have a chance to leave her mark on Georgia Highlands and at the conference level.”

Brandan Harrell, head coach for the women’s basketball program at GHC, also praised Dawkins.  “Aujana is a tremendous talent and a hard working player,” he said.  “She will make an immediate impact on the Lady Charger program.  We are very happy to have her in the GHC family.”

This past season was the inaugural season at Georgia Highlands for women’s basketball, and the team played impressively to a 24-6 record.  Dawkins is signing onto a winning program that made both state and national rankings during its first season.
