Advance Management Certificate Program - Taking Leadership to the Next Level

Facilitator: A national presenter, Christina Christenson Brush earned her doctorate in Industrial Relations/Human Resource Management and International Business at Georgia State University.  Tina has over 30 years of consulting and training experience and has worked with organizations of all sizes in the profit, non-profit and public sectors in the Midwest and Southeast as well as overseas.  Tina works with organizations to develop integrated management development programs, engagement initiatives, human performance improvement systems, and high performance teams. 



Module 1: Self Leadership – Manage Time, Stress, and Emotions. Great leaders start with leading themselves. You are a model for others, so make it a good one.  You will learn how to:

  • Identify your priorities and maintain control over your time
  • Assess your typical response to setbacks and learn how to build resilience in yourself and others
  • Understand the role your emotions play in stressful situations
  • Tame “dinosaur” thinking under stress.


Module 2: Harnessing the Power of Diversity. Our workforce has never been more diverse. Generational, cultural, and personal differences often collide, but can be turned into opportunities. You will learn how to:

  • Turn diversity in your team into a competitive advantage
  • Lead to include rather than exclude
  • Understand the impact your personality has on others
  • Understand what drives the behavior of young workers.


Module 3: Building a Culture of Trust.  Trust is at an all time low in most organizations.  Without trust, leaders cannot respond to the volatile changes their organizations face and sustainable competitive advantages will not be realized. You will learn how to:

  • Develop the Trust Triangle: Rapport, Credibility, and Respect
  • Identify and understand social threats in the workplace to minimize “dinosaur” thinking and behavior
  • Avoid creating distrust based on misinterpretations or poor listening
  • Influence and motivate others to achieve high performance


Module 4: Creating a Lean Culture of Accountability. Building a sense of ownership and accountability among employees and a culture of problem solving is a top priority for all organizations. You will learn how to:

  • Empower yourself and others through accountability
  • Recognize and break down accountability roadblocks 
  • Promote accountability instead of blame
  • Demonstrate and coach to bring out accountability in others.


Module 5: Dealing with Performance Challenges.  Front-line leaders often focus on performance results and not the behaviors leading to the results. This makes it difficult to know how to turn problem employees into successful contributors. You will learn to:

  • Understand what drives behavior at work and how to respond to typical challenging behaviors and attitudes
  • Identify performance gaps, the causes of these gaps, and obstacles to achieving desired performance results
  • Determine whether training or coaching is required to address the performance gap
  • Successfully part ways with employees who fire themselves.






Module 6: Effective Training on the Job.  Most on the job learning occurs as a result of informal training efforts that may not based on how adults learn best. In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Deliver on-the-job training based on how adults learn and retain skills
  • Determine how to break down jobs into teachable tasks
  • Use the 4-Step training process to teach job skills
  • Provide feedback and support while assessing employee progress.


Module 7: Coaching - Energizing and Enabling High Performers. Coaching is the most important skill for 21st century leaders. You will learn to:

  • Distinguish between training and coaching for improvement and coaching for development
  • Demonstrate critical coaching skills
  • Add value through coaching employees to assume higher levels of responsibility
  • Utilize the “inside-out” method of coaching.


Module 8: Enable Employees through Effective Problem Solving

and Decision Making.  To make effective decisions, you must utilize all available knowledge and experience to address the real issues and take appropriate action. You will learn to:

  • Perform Leader Standard Work to build employees’ “problem-solving muscle”
  • Encourage a climate of continuous improvement
  • Use Practical Problem Solving
  • Utilize the Six Thinking Hats approach to problem solving and decision making.


Module 9: The Power of Persuasion and Influence – Leading With and Without Authority. 21st century leaders rely more on persuasion and influence than ever before. You will learn how to: 

  • Understand the psychology of persuasion and influence – the conscious and subconscious triggers that influence the decision making process, behaviors and reactions.
  • Identify your sources of influence 
  • Develop skills to increase your ability to lead without authority 
  • Gain commitment through fostering cooperation and collaboration


Module 10: Creating a Culture of Teamwork. Being a contributing member of a team and assuming team leadership roles are responsibilities all employees have in 21st century organizations.  You will learn how to:

  • Incorporate behaviors exhibited by high performing teams into your teams
  • Practice transformational leadership
  • Utilize the power of teams to create greater value 
  • Identify symptoms of team dysfunction and act to make your team more effective.
