Last Home Game of the Season Filled with Victory, Disappointments, Honors

The last home game of GHC’s inaugural basketball season took place on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and was tense, exciting and emotional as the Lady Chargers took on the Lady Titans of Albany Technical College.  The ladies won, 70-56.  They will finish the season of regular games on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Darton College.  Then they return home to host the first play-off game of post-season play at Georgia Highlands on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

As for the Chargers, they also played Albany Tech following the women’s game.  Dimychael Ross had 21 points, but it wasn't enough to outlast the Titans, who won 77-56. The Chargers travel to Gordon College on Saturday to finish season play. Tip - off is 7:30 p.m.

Between the two games four women sophomores were honored on the court for their contributions to the winning first season.  None of the student athletes has chosen their next institution, but all are weighing several options.  Rachael Turrentine plans to finish her baccalaureate degree with a major in sonography.  Seandre Lee and Manon Cherubini plan to choose a four-year institution and continue playing basketball.  Lashanta Clardy wants to continue her studies at a major four-year institution where she can play basketball and graduate with a business degree.  This year's Charger team was composed solely of freshmen, who will be honored next year.

The women’s team has had a stellar first year, made even more impressive because it was the first year GHC played competitive sports.  Thanks to both teams for making 2012-2013 historic.  Enjoy the photo gallery below.
