In the very first year of Georgia Highlands College basketball, the Lady Chargers stunned  Walters State of Tennessee, which is nationally ranked at number eight, at the Georgia Perimeter College Thanksgiving Tournament with a score of 55-53.  The Lady Charger team is currently ranked 21 nationally, an impressive achievement for a first-year program.

After a hard-fought first half at GPC, the Lady Chargers trailed 32-23.  In the second half the team's defensive effort was led by Shakierya McClendon with five steals. Also contributing to the win was a balanced offensive attack led by McClendon's 15, Manon Cherubini's 15, Gabrielle Kendall's nine and Shan'Taja Latimore's eight points.
