I am happy to be part of  Georgia Highlands College.  I am originally from northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC.  I have a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  I started my career working at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.  I worked in the husbandry department as an Aquarist.  After 7 years in NC,  I moved to Charleston, SC to help open a new aquarium.  My position was Senior Aquarist, responsible for Quarantine and Acquisition of new specimens to be displayed in the aquarium. While in SC,  I mentored volunteers and interns at the offsite Quarantine facility.  We also started the Sea Turtle Hospital.  From SC,  I moved to the US Virgin Islands and was Curator of Coral World Ocean Park in St. Thomas.  It was a great opportunity of live and work outside the mainland US doing what I enjoyed.  As Curator,  I established a rehabilitation and rescue center for sea turtles at Coral World.  I did education and conservation outreach to local schools and programs within the park.    It was truly a great experience living and working in the Caribbean.  After the birth of my first son, my husband and I moved to Georgia.  I excepted a position as Associate Curator of Quarantine and Acquisitions with the Georgia Aquarium.  It was an amazing experience opening the world's largest aquarium, and lots of long hours.  The aquarium has animals from all other the world, so I traveled to many exotic places in search of animals to be displayed as part of the diverse collection.  I had the opportunity of work with whale sharks in Taiwan, manta rays, many other elasmobranchs and boney fishes  prior to shipment to Atlanta.  After 8 years and lots of travel,  I am embarking on a new adventure.  Currently I am working on my Masters degree from the University of West Georgia.  I plan to teacher college or high school biology.  I look forward to sharing my experiences with my students and help to foster love and respect for the natural world.
