Week of Love Celebrates GHC Community
Students LOVE Week of Love
During the week that gave us Valentine’s Day, GHC shared the love amongst itself. Three days of events celebrated students, faculty and staff. Feb. 12 marked “I Love GHC” day. Students received their passports to love, visiting various departments for treats (provided by the GHC Foundation and individual departments) and stamps on their passports. Faculty and staff were provided with treats, too, thanks to the generosity of the Floyd campus Employee Ambassadors. Next was the Love Your Neighbor Volunteer Fair on Feb. 13. Students were able to speak with community partners and student organizations, and learn about local volunteer service and philanthropy. They wrote letters to veterans to thank them for their service, made and exchanged Valentines and donated hair to Locks of Love. That afternoon, everyone enjoyed an “I’m in the mood for popcorn” break.
Finally on the big day (Valentine’s Day, Feb.14) everyone attended to more serious love in the form of a presentation by Susan Claxton. Women of Worth, a non-profit organization, informed students about the free medical resources available to them. The Sexual Assault Center of Rome was also on hand to provide information about its services, sexual bullying and healthy dating relationships.
The week was such a big hit that plans are already underway for another Week of Love.
